Amizade Global Service Learning Trip to Brazil, 2020

This program takes place primarily in Santarém, Brazil, providing students with an opportunity to understand Amazonian Brazil. Beyond visiting Afro-Brazilian or riverine villages in the Amazon, students will be exposed to the rapidly growing economy of Northern Brazil. Students will complete service activities with Amizade’s community partner, Fundação Esperança or Terre des Hommes. The majority of the program will be spent participating in an existing rural health initiative.

This 2-week, 3 Credit Hour program to Brazil provides students with the opportunity to shadow healthcare teams that provide primary care to rural and indigenous communities along the Amazon River. You will also tour health facilities in the city of Santarem including a daycare center and an outpatient clinic for kids with special needs. You will also have the opportunity to participate in service projects with local community partners, tour the city, and experience the rainforest during kayaking trips, hikes, and other cultural and recreational activities!

Deadline to apply is February 1st, 2020.
