Use this timeline to keep yourself on track toward your professional goals.

While your individual timeline will depend on your credit hours, undergraduate degree program, and selected professional program, we provide this timeline as a general guide to help you plan. There is a lot of flexibility in this process, and you should not feel you have to strictly adhere to this timeline to be successful.

  1. Semester 1

    • Create an action plan

    • Seek opportunities to volunteer, healthcare-related or otherwise

    • Find shadowing opportunities in a healthcare field related to your interests

    • Look into research opportunities for summer/into second year

    • Start a log or journal to keep track of experiences

    • Start tracking in GPA Calculator

  2. Summer 1

    • Participate in meaningful experiences related to your field of interest (clinical, service, leadership, research)

  3. Semester 3

    • Open our mock application and start tracking your experiences

    • Attend relevant pre-health seminars and workshops (Becoming a Competitive Applicant, Preparing to Apply, Resume Building)

    • Attend the Pre-Health Mixer

    • Begin identifying potential professors and other individuals who could write letters of recommendation for you

    • Continue meaningful experiences related to your field of interest (clinical, service, leadership, research)

  4. Semester 4

    • Schedule a meeting with a pre-health advisor

    • Evaluate action plan and update as needed

    • Finalize application timeline

    • Complete a self assessment

    • Continue meaningful experiences related to your field of interest (clinical, service, leadership, research)

  5. Summer 2

    • Continue meaningful experiences related to your field of interest (clinical, service, leadership, research)

    • Explore study options for entrance exam, if applicable

    • Solidify study plan and timeline

    • Identify programs and schools of interest

  6. Semester 5

    • Attend relevant pre-health seminars and workshops (Personal Statement, Resume Workshop, Writing About Your Experiences)

    • Start drafting your personal statement

    • Prepare resume

    • Begin drafting descriptions of experiences for your application

    • Finalize list of recommendation letter writers

    • Register for entrance exam, if applicable

    • Finalize list of programs to apply to

    • Consider and plan gap year, if applicable

    • Continue meaningful experiences related to your field of interest (clinical, service, leadership, research)

  7. Semester 6

    • Participate in the Pre-Health Application Prep Program

    • Update GPA calculator

    • Submit resume, personal statement, and experiences to the pre-health office for review

    • Study for entrance exam, if applicable

    • Take your entrance exam, if applicable

    • Request letters of recommendation

    • Continue meaningful experiences related to your field of interest (clinical, service, leadership, research)

  8. Summer 3

    • Continue meaningful experiences related to your field of interest (clinical, service, leadership, research)

    • Apply to your professional program of choice, if applicable

    • Follow up with your letter writers to ensure submission

    • Complete secondary applications

    • Book an Interview Prep appointment with Pre-Health

  9. Semester 7-8

    • Interview

    • Get accepted!

    • Complete degree requirements, graduate, and relax
